Eadaoin and Aidan's December Wedding
After meeting online back in 2021 Eadaoin Owens & Aidan O’Donovan were married on 14th December 2024 in a beautiful ceremony at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny. Surrounded by family and friends they celebrated at Newpark Hotel Kilkenny. Their wonderful photography was by Ben Power and also videographer Hidden Gem Memories. Eadaoin's lovely dress was by Eva Lendel at Dublin Bridal House and her hair and makeup by Elaine Kavanagh and Vaiva Beauty. The gorgeous flowers were from Fleur de Lis by Marie Murphy.
Eadaoin wore the Ivory Cloud Bridal Cape by Helen Moore.
Over to Eadaoin to tell their romantic story and to explain why it just had to be a Christmas Wedding!
Your Love Story
How did you and your partner meet?
We met online during COVID in 2021. I had just returned from living abroad, I loved being back home and being so close to family and friends again and knew I wanted to stay home in Ireland long term.
Although I had a profile on the online apps, I wasn’t very active or very good at keeping up with conversations. Until one night, I was on night duty and the shift was unusually very slow (I’m a nurse, it’s not often we get a shift that isn’t crazy busy!). I had matched with a very handsome man earlier that week and he had sent me a message. Needless to say I hadn’t replied as I am a terrible texter, but there was something very nice about his message, and he was easy on the eye too. I didn’t think he would respond as it was late at night and I had taken my time in replying to his first message. But sure enough he did, we met the following week and took a lovely walk along The Copper Coast in Co. Waterford and as they say... the rest is history!

Tell us about the proposal. Where did it happen and was it a surprise?
The proposal was just stunning and a complete surprise. We got engaged at home on 9th December 2023. I had been working that day, I couldn’t wait to get home to relax as I had a week off after that shift and was so looking forward to having some time off and getting ready for Christmas. Little did I know what I was walking into. I was chatting to my friend on the phone on my way home and had sat in the car continuing to chat for a further 20 minutes or so after arriving into the driveway! Poor Aidan was inside sweating buckets!!
I walked up to the front door and could see fairy lights all along the stairs and little tea light candles lighting the kitchen floor through the glass in the door!! The house was in darkness, apart from candlelight, there was a rose petal pathway paved to the sunroom where a tipi had been erected! Aidan was waiting for me on one knee and asked me the important question!! It was obviously an easy yes, especially looking around at the huge effort he had gone to... and all unbeknown to me. He had started preparing the minute I left for work that morning! It was so romantic and very special for it to happen in our beautiful new home. The next morning we set off to Galway for a two night break in a beautiful hotel. The Christmas Markets were on and we were on such a high. It was lovely to soak it all up, just the two of us before announcing it to everyone once we got back.

Your Wedding Story
Tell us about the big day! What were your favourite moments? What inspired your wedding theme and style?
I loved every second of our day from start to finish. I had the best time getting ready with my closest friends and family that morning and then seeing Aidan for the first time at the top of the aisle was special. We had our beloved Labrador Jimmy come to the church once the ceremony was over for photos before going into Kilkenny City for the rest of our pictures. Our bridal party were just amazing, they are our closest friends but are more like family at this stage, it was just the best time having them with us on the day!
I wasn’t given any choice in choosing the time of year for the wedding, Aidan is a Dairy Farmer and December is their quiet month. Cows don’t require milking and calving season doesn’t usually start until January so it was a Christmas Wedding or nothing. It was the most magical time of year to get married… the lights, the decorations and the festivities all around. Everyone is in great form so it’s actually a really great time of year to get married. I would say I much prefer winter fashion and styling over summer style anyway so it made choosing my dress and accessories very easy.

How did you choose your dress and accessories? Why did you decide to include faux fur in your wedding look?
My dress and the detail was my style to a tee. The silk fabric with lace panelling and sleeves with tiny hand sewn beads and crystals just glimmered and gave a real sense of Christmas sparkle! The faux fur was really the icing on the cake, I love a faux fur wrap or stole over a dress for a winter wedding, it really added the final touch and that extra bit of luxury and elegance to my bridal look. I love mixing and styling different fabric textures together, the faux fur tied in with the lace and silk was stunning.

How did you find the experience of choosing and wearing your faux fur accessory?
I absolutely adore my Helen Moore faux fur! It did all the talking. Its quality is exceptional, that’s very easy to see. I received many compliments, it’s so perfect for winter.
How did your faux fur accessory enhance your bridal look?
It just finished off the whole look, the fur is just effortlessly perfect and also gave great warmth too which I was very glad of in the middle of December
What have you done with your faux fur Cape since the wedding? Have you worn it again?
My fur is wrapped up, still in perfect condition and stored in the box I received it in. We have 2 winter weddings this year and I plan on wearing it to both.

What advice would you give to other brides choosing their wedding accessories?
Just follow your own sense of style and own it. Although, I do think investing in quality made accessories is important, they will stand the test of time and are sustainable. It’s nice to be able to get plenty of wear out of your accessories beyond your wedding day, and Helen Moore faux furs are definitely excellent quality, I will have mine in my wardrobe for a long time.
Any suggestions for new faux fur bridal styles you'd love to see? I personally think the variety of styles available at present is very good but maybe more colour options to match bridesmaids dresses.
Congratulations Eadaoin and Aidan!
