Adam & Alys Bates

Alys and Adam married in May this year. They felt it was important to recognise and honour both their own journey and their family's history during the day and included some beautiful touches to do so. They had a church ceremony followed by a celebration at Pynes House, Exeter in Devon. Their photographers were the wonderful documentary wedding photographers Pip & Simon. Tell us about the big day: Our big day was an intimate church ceremony at St Thomas the Apostles Church, Exeter with family and a few close friends; followed by a grand country house celebration at Pynes House. What inspired the design and theme of the day? We drew inspiration from our 7 year relationship to add meaningful elements throughout the day. For example, the favours were shaped like Smeatons Tower in Plymouth and there was a subtle nautical theme to represent the city we met in. We also married in the same church Adam's maternal Grandparents married in, 55 years ago! When did you start planning your dress and accessories? I had thoughts about what I wanted but spent quite a bit of time looking on Pinterest for further inspiration. I'm so indecisive so the pinboards were quite full! I used my Mum's veil, Gran's pearls and found my shoes on the TKMaxx website, at a total steal price a few weeks before the wedding. Adams' suit came from Zebels in Exeter Where did you get your dress? Bridal Emporium in Exeter. I fell in love with it as soon as I put it on. I knew it was the right one instantly, I also could tell by the way Gran, Mum + Adams' Mum were looking at me in it. My hair accessories also came from here. Why did you choose to wear faux fur? It's a funny story really. My Dad had bought it from a Helen Moore event and gave it to me for Christmas 2018. We all joked it was a hint for Adam to get on and propose to me . It turned out Dad had chosen really well, as the bolero went with my dress perfectly! It kept me super warm outside in the evening. Did we help you in any way to make sure your faux fur accessories were perfect? As dad had already bought the bolero for me, no. However, it was the perfect colour anyway! What have you done with your faux fur accessory since the big day? I have worn it to various events and am looking forward to wearing it again on our New Years Eve cruise.

Congratulations Alys and Adam!
