Amy & Callum's Gretna Green Winter Wedding

Amy and Callum had originally thought of marrying abroad in 2020, but like so many couples that year they found that everything had suddenly changed.  Undaunted, they hit re-set and made a completely new plan - an intimate winter wedding in Gretna Green.
They were married in the Coach House at  Gretna Hall historic marriage house. Party at Smiths Hotel. Stunning photos by Julie Winspear

Amy wore a bespoke Ermine Bridal Jacket by Helen Moore.

Tell us about the big day

Surrounded by our closest friends and family, our intimate winter wedding was simply perfect. Travelling to Gretna to tie the knot wasn’t the original wedding plan but we wouldn’t change it for the world.

What inspired the design and theme of your wedding?

The location and season helped inspire the theme and design along with a lot of Pinterest mood boards!. We chose Gretna Green because we wanted to keep our winter wedding theme and after some research we loved the look of Gretna and the history behind it.

When did you start planning your dress and accessories?

Back in 2020 when we decided on a winter wedding, we went dress shopping almost immediately. My ideas and colours changed a little over time but when we rebooked our wedding in 2021 I had a clear vision on colours and themes and could picture exactly what accessories I wanted.

Where did you get your dress? How did you decide what you wanted to wear?

My dress was from a beautiful local shop The Wedding Collection in my old home town, Barnstaple North Devon. Susie was incredibly helpful and suggested some beautiful dresses to try, surprisingly the ones I thought I wouldn’t like turned out to be my favourites. I think I must have tried all of the dresses in the shop! I managed to narrow it down to 3 and after some discussions about possible alterations I said ‘yes to the dress’.

Did you have to postpone or re schedule your wedding because of the Pandemic and did this influence any of your choices?

We did, like so many we had planned to get married in 2020 in the Austrian Mountains, but I always think things happen for a reason and I wouldn’t change a thing about our day!

How would you describe your wedding style? traditional, vintage, contemporary, relaxed?

A winter wedding.

Why did you choose to wear faux fur?

I love the look of the faux fur and it went perfectly with my theme and style.

Was it important to be warm?

Absolutely! We were marrying in Scotland in December.

Did you choose faux fur because it looks great in photos?

Yes, and even now I look back at my photos and feel my little jacket made the whole look come together.

Did your bridesmaids/flower girls wear faux fur?

Yes, my maid of honour also wore a faux fur wrap.

Did we help you in any way to make sure your faux fur accessories were perfect?

The quality of the jacket was perfect and I didn’t need any further help.

Is there anything you would have changed or improved about our faux fur?

No, I loved the colour, weight, length, warmth and feel.

Have you worn your faux fur accessory again since your wedding day?

Unfortunately not, but hoping to get the jacket out again soon!

Any suggestions for other brides?

Just do your research and don’t be afraid to try different options. Go with what you feel most comfortable and confident in as this will shine through on your perfect day.

Congratulations Amy and Callum!
